Bmibaby opens Birmingham-Madrid link

Midlands-based low-fares airline bmibaby has announced that it will begin flying from Birmingham international airport to Madrid in December.

The service, which will operate four times a week from December 7th, will be the only direct air connection to the Spanish capital from the West Midlands region.

Madrid is one of eight new destinations the airline will fly to from Birmingham this winter, along with Barcelona, Faro, Glasgow, Jersey, Lisbon, Murcia and Rome Fiumicino.

The new routes bring the total number of destinations served by bmibaby from the Midlands hub to 22.

David Hodge, the carrier's marketing director, commented: "It's great to be able to announce another new route from Birmingham airport with the launch of our new four times a week service to Madrid, the capital of Spain.

"Madrid is such a vibrant, cosmopolitan city that will appeal to people of all ages, whether it's a cultural weekend break or somewhere to party the night away."

Peter Vella, business development director at Birmingham airport, described it as "fantastic news" that flights to Madrid will soon be available directly from the Midlands.
