Dubai promotes self-catering stays
The availability of self-catering hospitality in Dubai will soon receive a boost following new legislation announced by the emirate's department of tourism and commerce marketing (DTCM).
A system is set to be installed to ensure that providers of self-catering accommodation operate under a set of criteria and conditions.
The initiative is being pursued in order to further support Dubai's thriving tourist industry and bring the market in line with international practices.
Mr Khalid A bin Sulayem, director general of the DTCM, announced the development and also revealed that 35 new licences for hotels and hotel apartments have been issued this year alone.
A further 109 initial approvals have also been granted to hotel construction projects this year.
At present there are 42 five-star hotels in Dubai with 12,578 rooms and another 7,603 rooms available in four-star accommodation.
There are also 3,306 flats for hire in 26 deluxe hotel apartments and 6,561 flats in 93 standard apartments.
