Budapest gets international endorsement

The world's largest airline alliance, oneworld, has thrown its weight behind a campaign to promote tourism in Budapest.

With members like British Airways, Qantas, Iberia and American Airlines, oneworld will look to encourage tourists to opt for Budapest when planning a holiday.

In conjunction with the oneworld promotion, the Budapest Winter Invasion will run from December 1st 2007 to March 31st 2008. Supported by the Hungarian National Tourist Office and Malev Hungarian Airlines, the period will see hotels discounted and events promoted.

oneworld members will also be supporting the event by running promotions in their in-flight magazines and entertainment programmes.

The alliance's vice president, Nicolas Ferri, commented: "Promoting travel to the new oneworld hub of Budapest is a great way for all the alliance's member airlines to highlight the recent addition to our grouping of Malev.

"We are delighted to be working with the carrier itself and the various tourism associations involved towards making the coming winter the city's best yet for inbound travel."

The Lonely Planet praises Budapest's "incredible architecture and rich cultural heritage" and even calls the city the "Paris of central Europe".
