Elton John opts for the Riviera

Yet another star has decided to holiday in Saint Tropez this summer, highlighting the region's celeb-attracting qualities.

Hello! magazine reports that Sir Elton John was recently spotted shopping in the chic stores located in the French seaside town.

And, like a host of other celebs, the 60-year-old singer-songwriter opted to stay on a luxury private yacht while he vacationed on the Riviera.

So far this summer, the French resort has played host to a multitude of celebrity faces, including the rapper and music mogul P Diddy, newlyweds Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster and supermodel Cindy Crawford.

According to its tourist office, Saint Tropez is "a true Provencal village whose history is deeply linked to the sea".

Fodor's travel guide is also full of praise for the region, noting: "With the Alps playing bodyguard against inland winds and the sultry Mediterranean warming the breezes, the Cote d'Azur, or French Riviera, is pampered by a nearly tropical climate.

"The Cote d'Azur seems to epitomise happiness, a state of being the world pursues with a vengeance."
