Families 'become more adventurous'

Families with young children are becoming increasingly adventurous when planning holidays, but destinations like Spain and Italy are likely to remain popular for a long time.

That's the opinion of Lucy Ace, the managing director of Take the Family. She explained that international holidays with young children were becoming the norm as people looked to escape the UK weather.

She added: "I think many people are so disappointed by the British weather that at the last minute they are deciding to go abroad."

Ms Ace acknowledged that families were "becoming more adventurous", but added that the child-friendly culture in Spain and Italy still offered a "winning formula". Other destinations which were seen as family-friendly included Egypt and even the Seychelles.

"The key things when travelling abroad with preschool children are to travel outside the busy times when it is also cooler in many of the popular summer destinations," she explained.

A recent study by Mother & Baby Magazine found that 75 per cent of families thought that going on holiday in the UK was too expensive and a trip to Europe would work out cheaper.
