Weak dollar 'boosting transatlantic flights'
The current strength of the pound against the dollar is boosting demand for transatlantic flights, according to BAA.
The strength of the pound against the dollar has led to rising popularity of transatlantic flights with UK travellers, according to airports operator BAA.
At a recent trading rate of over $2 to the pound, the American currency is currently at its lowest value against sterling for over 25 years.
A representative for BAA Stansted said that this has led to a boom in bookings for flights from the UK to America.
"All three of Stansted's transatlantic airlines have reported significantly increased bookings," he said.
The spokesperson went on to explain that the time of year is also contributing to the rising number of flight bookings, as travellers plan their festive holidays.
"Christmas is an extremely busy time for all of Stansted's airlines, especially our flights to the US, which have proved extremely popular," he commented.
