Polish connection for Birmingham

People in the West Midlands will soon have the opportunity to fly to Krakow from Birmingham Airport.

People in the West Midlands will soon have the opportunity to fly to Krakow from Birmingham Airport.

The low cost carrier, bmibaby, said last night that it planned to start serving the Polish city in February.

The two weekly flights, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, come amid growing demand for cheap flights to Europe.

New European destinations like Poland are also becoming more popular, as membership of the EU stimulates the economies of old Soviet Union.

"bmibaby's new Polish route to Krakow reinforces the airlines commitment to developing and expanding services from Birmingham International Airport, providing further economic growth to the region," commented David Hodge, commercial director of bmibaby.

"The UK Polish community is a modern day phenomena and the new route from Birmingham will provide valuable links for friends and family in Poland and in the Midlands.

He added: "Krakow will also be really popular as a short break destination, as many consider it to be the most charismatic and prettiest city in Poland."

While Poland is expected to see significant economic growth in the coming years, it remains relatively cheap for British tourists.
