Norwich airport upgrades airport lounge

[30th June 2008]

Norwich airport has opened its newly refurbished airport lounge, targeting business travellers from the region and other cities around the UK.

The £30,000 upgrade of the airport lounge is part of a series of improvements being carried out at the airport. Local furniture manufacturer Multiyork has provided £20,000 worth of contemporary seating, while the other £10,000 has been contributed by Norwich Travel Retail which operates the lounge.

“The airport plays a key role in our region’s economy, enabling inbound and outbound travel for business and leisure travellers alike. We also want to ensure that our programme of investment at the airport benefits the local economy too, which is why we work with local suppliers such as Multiyork where we can,” comments Norwich airport MD, Richard Jenner.

According to Norwich Travel Retail MD Gary Myhill, around 3,000 people use the lounge every month and about 85% of these are business travellers. “We’ve had good feedback so far from users – it’s definitely a comfortable place where you’d want to spend a lot of time,” says Myhill.

This is the first time that Thetford based Multiyork has worked with an airport in this way. “Working with Norwich airport was a good fit – we are Norfolk-based so it’s a natural partnership for us to promote ourselves in an executive lounge, as we are a niche furniture manufacturer and retailer. We can also widen the awareness of our brand, as business travellers from other UK cities such as Manchester use the lounge too,” says Multiyork marketing director, Sarah Herbert.
