Manchester airport welcomes easyJet

[31st March 2008]

Low cost airline easyJet begins flights from its new base at Manchester airport today and is offering the chance to win flights and holidays.

The budget airline plans to paint the city orange today – although Man Utd and Man City fans will doubtless have something to say about this. An orange easyJet fun bus is touring Manchester calling at main sites including Piccadilly Gardens, Deansgate, Oxford Street and Church Street.

Mancunians will have the opportunity to win easyJet prizes such as flights and holidays to summer sun destinations from Manchester airport. New flights from Manchester airport include holiday hotspots such as Tenerife, Paphos, Malaga, Malta and Heraklion.

“We're delighted to be welcoming easyJet to Manchester. It is a vibrant and ambitious airline that will offer Manchester passengers a popular range of routes at excellent prices,” comments Manchester airport MD, Andrew Cornish.

“easyJet recognises the strong demand for low-cost convenient services from the North West and we are delighted to be the North West’s largest airline,” says easyJet UK general manager, David Osborne.

The low fares airline expects to carry over half a million passengers from Manchester airport in the next year and says it is committed to further growth in the region in the near future.

New daily flights from Liverpool airport to the popular summer holiday destination of Jersey are also being launched by easyJet today. Fares start from £21.99 one way or £37.98 return including taxes.
