[27th June 2008]
Manchester airport has won the Best Airport award in the 10-25 million passenger category in Airports Council International Europe's awards in Paris this week.
The judges praised the airport for its simple, innovative approach to attracting airlines and its commitment to the environment following the decision to make the airport carbon neutral by 2015.
Also singled out for praise was Manchester airport's focus on customer service. The Customer First programme introduced by the airport is designed to ensure passengers have a seamless, easy and stress-free experience when they travel through the airport.
Manchester was also commended for the way it has handled changes to security restrictions at the airport. More than £2.2 million has been invested in new x-ray machines and £10 million in a new security screening area in Terminal 1.
Manchester airport puts customers first and that includes both airlines and our passengers. We are committed to making life as easy and hassle free as possible for people when they travel through Manchester Airport," comments Manchester airport MD, Andrew Cornish.
"We firmly believe that our approach is the right way to run an airport of the future and were delighted that the efforts of everyone here at Manchester Airport have been recognised in this award, adds Cornish.
Other winners included Sagat Turin airport in the 1-5 million passenger category, Lyon-Saint Exupery airport in the 5-10 million category, and Madrid-Barajas airport in the over 25 million passengers category.
