Low cost airline offers flights from Edinburgh

Low fares airline Ryanair will be offering flights from Edinburgh airport to 19 destinations in Europe including Alicante, Malaga, Palma and Frankfurt.

Two of the routes, to Dublin airport and Shannon airport in Ireland, are already operating. Flights to Alicante will operate four times a week and start in March. New flights to Bremen, Frankfurt, Marseille and Pisa start in April. Twice weekly flights to Dusseldorf begin in June.

All the other new flights will start in September. These include flights to Berlin, Billund, Bournemouth, Bratislava, Krakow in Poland, Lodz, Malaga, Palma, Poznan, Stockholm and Wroclaw.

From September Ryanair will base two new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at Edinburgh. The no frills airline says the new routes will deliver 1.2 million passengers a year, generate annual visitor spend of over £100 million, and create 1,200 new jobs in Edinburgh and the east of Scotland.

"Edinburgh airport has competed successfully against airports across Europe for Ryanair's 27th base. Our 19 routes will deliver significant economic benefits for Edinburgh by capitalising on Scotland's huge tourism potential and making it cheaper and easier than ever before to get here," says Ryanair's director of scheduled revenue, Sean Coyle.

"Ryanair already connects Scotland to more international destinations than any other airline and we look forward to delivering savings of over £20 million for Edinburgh's passengers compared to the high fares charged by easyJet and BA," adds Coyle.

To celebrate the launch of its new flights from Edinburgh, Ryanair is offering seats on all the new routes for £10 including taxes and charges until midnight on Monday 3 March.
