London City airport invests in check in

[11th April 2008]

Fast growing London City airport is investing in new self-service check in kiosks as it aims to enhance the airport experience for its passengers.

From May there will be 12 self-service check in kiosks at the airport that will enable passengers to check themselves onto flights with airlines including VLM, KLM and Swiss. London City is used predominantly by business travellers.

"The majority of passengers at London City Airport are frequent fliers who will appreciate the timesaving that the CUSS [Common User Self Service] technology offers. By speeding-up the overall time spent at the airport, business travellers are able to commute with further ease to their final destination," says London City airport general manager, customer services and security, Melanie Burnley.

London City airport is also upgrading facilities in its departure lounge. The new lounge is being reconfigured to add 250 more seats, while a new airport lounge will have high-speed internet access for all passengers as well as live sports screens. Retail facilities are being expanded too, with new WH Smith and Nuance outlets.

A £30 million project to build new parking stands at London City will be completed this May, adding space for four more aircraft. More gate lounges are also being added, allowing access directly from the airport departure lounge.

Later this year British Airways will launch a business class only service to New York using an Airbus A318, the first ever transatlantic scheduled service from London City airport.
