Heathrow gets more A380 flights

[23rd May 2008]

The world's largest passenger plane, the Airbus A380, will become a more familiar sight at Heathrow airport from July.

Singapore Airlines already uses the A380 superjumbo on daily flights between Heathrow airport and Singapore. But from 16th July, after it takes delivery of its fifth A380 aircraft, it will offer four additional flights between the two cities on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

“Our A380 products have been very well received by our customers, and loads on the Singapore-London route have been exceptionally encouraging. The deployment of another A380 on this route will cater to continual strong demand from customers traveling between Singapore and London,” says Singapore Airlines executive vice president marketing and regions, Huang Cheng Eng.

There will, however, be a break in the extra A380 services between Heathrow and Singapore as the airline's new A380 will be sent to Beijing to meet the anticipated demand in the run-up to the start of the 2008 Olympic Games. Flights from Heathrow using the new A380 are scheduled to start again on 10th August although the Olympics runs from 8-24th August.

The new flights on the A380 will depart from Heathrow at 22.05 arriving in Singapore at 17.55 the next day. Extra flights from Singapore depart at 12.45 and arrive at Heathrow at 19.10.

British Airways is scheduled to be the first UK airline to offer flights on the A380 after it takes delivery of the first of 12 superjumbos in 2012.
