Heathrow airport gets more A380 flights

[30th June 2008]

Heathrow airport will see more of the Airbus A380 from 16th July now that Singapore Airlines' has taken delivery of its fifth superjumbo.

More of Singapore Airlines' flights on its Heathrow to Singapore route will be upgraded from the Boeing 747-400 to the Airbus A380. Flight SQ318 – the lunch-time departure from Singapore to London Heathrow – and the returning SQ321 late-evening departure from London will be operated by an A380 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 16th July.

The airline already operates a daily service using the A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft, on the Heathrow to Singapore route. However, there will be a break in the second A380 service from 31st July to 9th August when the new plane is deployed to Beijing in the run up to the 2008 Olympic Games.

Singapore Airlines is still the only airline to fly the A380. Emirates Airline takes delivery of the first of 58 new superjumbos in July and will use the plane on flights between Heathrow and Dubai, as well as on routes between Dubai and New York and Dubai and Sydney-Auckland.

On the same day it received its latest A380, Singapore Airlines took delivery of its 18th Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The airline also has firm orders for 14 more A380s and options on a further six.
