Glasgow's £30m transformation begins
The next phase of the £30 million development of Glasgow airport is now underway.
Construction work has begun on a 12-month project to redevelop Glasgow airport.
Six months of enabling work has been carried out on the site and foundations have been put in place for the £30 million transformation to begin.
Construction is set to last seven months with full unveiling of the development, known as Skyhub, scheduled for October 2008.
Among the innovations is a translucent cladding system that absorbs the sun's rays and fills the terminal with natural light, reducing the need for artificial illumination and heating.
The development is intended to help reduce security waiting times, increase capacity in the terminal and heighten the choice and comfort available to passengers.
Gordon Dewar, managing director of Glasgow airport, said: "Skyhub will allow us to offer greater levels of choice and comfort for passengers by creating one departure hub open to all departing travellers.
"At £30 million, it is the largest single investment made by BAA for a decade and will transform the travel experience for passengers flying from Glasgow airport."
