Southampton airport has almost doubled its check in desks and baggage handling capacity in order to tackle queues.
Following an investment of over £3 million, departures now has three new check in desks. In addition, airline Flybe has installed ten self service check in kiosks. Passengers short of time will be able to access two of these in the short stay airport car park before they reach the terminal building.
The airport has also upgraded its baggage handling system so that the number of bags processed every hour has nearly doubled. The latest security technology is also a feature of the new system.
Southampton airport director of planning and development, Dave Lees commented:
The installation of 13 new check-in facilities will benefit the time-conscious passenger by providing additional choice for check-in. This, together with the baggage system developments, aim to ensure that passengers continue to experience the easy and fast service that Southampton Airport is known for.
Over 185,000 passengers passed through the airport last month, an increase of 6.9% over last May's figures.
