Boris Johnson, London's recently elected mayor, called for a new airport to ease congestion on the other five which serve the capital.

Johnson doubted that a proposed third runway for Heathrow would ever be built as it is already the world's busiest airport with 68 million passengers a year. Equally Johnson doubted the expansion of London's second biggest airport, Gatwick, as it was already "full to bursting"

He quotes in The Daily Telegraph "It is ... ever more urgent that we investigate the possibility of a long-term solution, in the form of a new and more eco-friendly international airport"

Whilst considering the possibility of a new airport, Johnson also favours expansion at London City Airport. With it's proximity to the financial districts and popularity amongst business travellers, London City Airport has definite potential.

A City Airport spokeswoman said "the growth would not need any new build, although an application to proceed with the development was delayed by Johnson last month due to concerns it may affect a proposed Thames Gateway bridge"

Prices for London City airport parking start at just £8.74 per day.
